Hertz Confirms Hackers Stole Customer Data

Hertz Global Announces Data Breach Involving Vendor, Personal Information May Be Affected

Rental car company Hertz Global (HTZ.O) revealed on Monday that some of its users' personal data was compromised in a breach linked to one of its vendors. The company confirmed that the incident might have impacted sensitive customer information.

According to Hertz, the breach occurred when Cleo Communications, a vendor that provides file transfer services, was targeted by hackers exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities on its platform in October and December. The affected data could include contact details, credit card information, and driver’s license numbers. Additionally, some users may have had their social security or passport information compromised.

Hertz clarified that their own network was not impacted by the breach, stating that its forensic investigation found no evidence of internal compromise. The company also noted that it was unaware of any incidents involving the misuse of the affected personal information for fraudulent activities.
